Last night The Line: Different Destinations opened in Carlisle.
The first show of it kind at Open Mind; a new music & arts cafe/bar in the centre of the city, brings together five artists all working in the mediums of drawing & painting. Curated by Adam Battle, of Galley, the highly sucessful independant art space of Denton Holme in the city, the exhibition explores the varience that can arise from these processes.
Having taken a break from exhibiting in the “white cube”, my return to gallery style exhibiting in such a relaxed setting was a pleasure. The curation has been handled with an elegance which has allowed the work to settle within the contemporary striped back bar, while highlighting each individual piece in its own right. On a personal note the spaces spotlighting is superb for my box framed works. Source 2014, pictured below, unfortunately did not make the curators cut but I have no ill feeling over this. This is the onus and burden of the curator, especially in the intimate art world of a small city.
For his part I would personally like to thanks Adam for his hard work putting the show together and Open Mind for its warm welcome and great taste.
Artists on show include myself, Maggie Gee, Jason Goult, Mairi Singleton and Bex Gibbons
The Line: Different Destinations is open daily from 10am til late.
